As a Parent, I Will Teach My Son These Lessons
In our society or this Indian culture, we have seen our daughters expecting respect from each and everyone before or after marriage, but almost to none, get it as the men do. Though the culture nowadays has changed a lot in some of the households, it still prevails somewhere, somehow.
Our daughters or we women are struggling really hard to stand out, but not everyone let us do whatever we want. And why I thought to write on this particular topic? Because sometimes, I think;
What if my son turns into the same kind of men, that I hated my whole life!
If my son treats his wife the way, some have been treated without respect and equality?
What if my son doesn’t turn up into the man who stood by women!
So, I feel, teaching our son is equally important as it is to teach our daughters on how to stay in the well-behaved marriage. And here I request every mother of a son or even a daughter to be a change and let the change happen. I don’t know if I would be able to teach him well, but I definitely won’t give up!
The Promises I Made
When I first held my son in my arms, I made a promise to myself to raise a son who respects not only a woman but every person he will ever meet in his life. I will raise a person who not only wants to be treated right but also knows how he should treat everyone around him. And the one promise I made is to raise him definitely not like today’s men are, who knows how to demand but will never know how to give.
So, below are some of the very important lessons I am going to teach my son whenever he gets older enough to understand, and I believe, every son needs to be taught this to give a better future to tomorrow’s women.
The first thing I will teach him – To COOK
I am going to teach that cooking is not a ladies job only. And if he wants to be served food well, he should know how to cook and serve it in the first place. Only then he can expect others or his partner to cook for him. And why only cooking? Each and every household work is his equal responsibility, and he should not help, he should fulfil that responsibility considering his own work.
I will teach my SON – HOME IS WHERE RESPECT IS!
If my son wants to be respected well, but can’t give back the same because he thinks he is a MAN who only can seek respect, then he doesn’t deserve any other person around him. So before aiming for respect, he should know how to respect his partner at first.
I will teach him that her partner’s dreams are as important as yours!
In our society, men’s careers and dreams are always more important than women’s. So I will raise my son to believe in a girl’s dreams also. And he should always tell her that her career and dreams are not secondary, in fact, is equally important as him. As long as your partner get the respect she deserves, she can fly greater heights.
The fourth lesson – Her clothes are not bad; it is your eyes!
This is the crucial thing to teach our son that clothes cannot define character. If you have the right to chose your clothes then, women have too. And your perception and the way you speak about someone’s clothes defines your character.
Women are not born to sacrifice for you.
At some point or other, our society may make you believe that women are there to sacrifice. So, If you ever feel that your partner should sacrifice anything for you, then you are wrong. Compromises are there in every relationship, and if you want her to compromise one thing for you, then you should always be ready for the second, and it’s your turn now.
Stay calm as every other woman do
It’s not only women’s behaviour to stay calm in difficult situations; you can also instil that behaviour in you. God has not given instructions only to women. So get ready and instead of expecting someone else’s calmness, learn how to stay calm because women can show a wave of anger too, just like you.
Stand for your Partner
There may be a situation when you want to speak for your women because she is right, but unable to, because of society or even your family. And in such situations, you can only call yourself a MAN, if you can stand for her, ignoring every other thing around you.
Most importantly, someone in the family or relatives may not be happy with the way I am teaching you, but I am totally fine with it and you should too.
Even if you don’t have a big bank balance or a well-paid job, but if you turn up to a man with a golden heart, I would be the happiest mother in this world.
Please be the man who your parents are proud of!
So Dear Parents,
As a parent, it is our job to teach our sons how to value themselves and most importantly, others. We need to raise them not only to be confident and independent but also, how to encourage others to be independent, confident and especially how to treat them.
