Jabla(Shirt), Langot(Nappy), Cap

A newborn baby’s skin is as delicate as a feather, so the clothes she/he will wear should be soft to avoid getting rashes. Jabla and Langot are running for generations in India. The best cloth material for babies is cotton. It would help if you washed them once so that they become soft and ready for your newborn. Do add these items in your baby’s hospital bag. If you don’t know where to find them, follow the link below.

Socks and Mittens

Babies are not able to regulate their body temperature and hence lose heat quickly. Those tiny little feet and hands should stay warm. Babies may catch a cold if socks and mittens are not worn. Sometimes babies are born with grown nails. In such a case, mittens help in avoiding fingernail scratches. Adding them in the baby’s hospital bag is a must.

Baby Wipes

Babies are so delicate that their skin needs extra care. The baby wet wipes contain 90% water. Wet wipes help in easy cleaning, and its soft touch ensures the baby doesn’t get rashes. There are many brands available like Johnson’s, Mee mee, Himalaya, Mama Earth etc. My personal favourite is Mee mee; it contains aloe vera. Its soft feel keeps my baby at ease while cleaning. Baby wipes should not only be added to your baby’s hospital bag but also required when the baby comes home.

Diapers

Babies wet their diapers at least six times a day. Managing a lot of clothes can get messy. One easy solution to the mess is baby diapers. There are many options available when it comes to choosing the diaper for your baby. And we should change and make the baby wear a new diaper every 3 to 4 hours. The best way is to use each type available in the market and settle on the one which suits your baby. My personal favourite is “Mamy Poko pants”, as they have a soft cover over the elastic part near the thigh area which makes sure there are no rashes or elastic marks. Also, it has a crisscross absorbent sheet which ensures uniform distribution of liquid.

Nail Cutter

Many times babies are born with grown nails. Those thin tiny nails can hurt your baby since babies can’t control their movements. Your baby may scratch its face; hence keeping a nail cutter in your baby’s hospital bag is a good idea. Click here to check the reviews of Mamaearth Baby products.

Rash Cream

Babies do get rashes due to varied reasons, one of them being diapers. It would be best if you use a natural cream for the delicate skin of your newborn. I’ve been using rash cream by “The mom’s co.” It contains zinc, chamomile, jojoba oils with oat protein and is totally safe for your baby. The rashes are gone in one application; I can vouch for it.

Milk Bottle

Sometimes it so happens that the mother is not able to feed the baby as soon as the baby is ready to feed. Reasons can be a mother is not in a position to feed due to stitches, latching issue etc. There are different types of bottles according to baby’s age, and the milk flow required. “Phillips Avent” bottle comes with soft teat which mimics the feel of breasts, and hence it can easily be combined with breastfeeding. Also, it becomes easy to introduce formula feed/ cows milk at a later stage (after four months till that babies digestive system is improved). I have used it on my baby, and it does work.

Swaddle Cloth/Wrap

baby’s hospital bag

Newborn babies are still adjusting to this new world, while they miss the warm feeling they had in the womb. When we swaddle a baby, it gets a similar warm feeling it had in the womb; this helps the baby to sleep well and be at ease. Nowadays we also get ready-made swaddle wrap. So in case, you don’t know how swaddling is done traditionally you can opt for the ready-made swaddle wrap. Do add the Swaddler in your baby’s hospital bag.

Dusting Powder

Dusting powder absorbs excess moisture of the skin and keeps it soft and fresh. It helps in keeping baby’s skin dry and itch-free. I’ve been using talc-free natural baby powder with corn starch by “The moms’ co”. It is 100% natural and toxin-free. The products by the moms’ co are on the expensive side but the best in the market. Baby’s hospital bag must include dusting powder.

Towel

Mostly towels are not provided by the hospital or even if they do provide, the quality is substandard. Hence it’s better to pack one in the baby’s hospital bag. Cotton muslin towel is the best as it quickly soaks the water and is soft on the baby’s skin.

Sweater/ Blanket

Newborn babies lose heat very fast as they have a tiny layer of fat, and their body is not mature enough to regulate their temperature. If you are going to deliver in the winter season, a sweater is an essential item you want to include in your baby’s hospital bag.
