How to keep your toddler busy inside home during Coronavirus Pandemic?

After spending almost four months in quarantine, I thought to write on this. How should you keep your toddler busy inside the home during this Coronavirus Pandemic? I know, I am a bit late and many of the parents have already managed to do that in their own ways, still, I have some tips on how should you do that in coming times.

Before starting, I really really wish that this pandemic gets over soon, so we all can step outside fearless with our kids and let them explore the outside world.

Because if there is no such pandemic, we all can go to the parks, malls and anywhere for the weekend visits. Since this is not possible for now, we can do other learning activities to keep them busy.

So, now, let’s get started with some of the activities where you can keep your toddler busy with. And the best part about this blog is that I am gonna help you not only with activities but with the benefits of such activities and also how you can also engage in it.

Pointing Out!

Have you ever wondered how this activity is beneficial for your 1-year toddler? Many of the toddlers already understood what pointing out means. But if I talk about my kid, he took more time to understand what it means or what we are trying to teach him. Now he looks at the direction where we point as well as he himself points at the thing he needs.

So, how should you do this? You just have to keep an object or a toy (which your kid wants the most at that moment) out of his reach. Show him/her how to point, and give that thing only after he/she points at it. And repeat this process every time they want something.

The benefit of the activity:

This makes your kid develop the art of non-verbal communication. And whenever you try this activity, your kid will gradually start understanding that he can get anything by just pointing at it. Another benefit is that the kids will stop asking for things by crying or shouting and their stubbornness can decrease too.

Dancing with toddler

This is the activity which my baby enjoys a lot. He is very fond of dancing. Whenever he listens to any music or rhymes or song, he immediately stands and starts dancing. Sometimes, even when I sing a rhyme, he starts moving his legs and upper part of the body.

So whenever you or your partner are free from other household or office work, just hold the kid and starts dancing and see her reaction. See, if she enjoys and repeats after you.?

toddler dancing

The benefit of the activity:

Dancing together is a conversation, if not using words, but using movements. This activity will not deepen your connection with your kids but they will also learn the sense of hearing, sound and sight. They will have better muscular strength and flexibility too.

Playground in Kitchen

We all know that kids are always curious about exploring new things, and they can keep themselves busy for about 15 minutes to half an hour as soon as they see a new thing. So what do you say if we make our kitchen, their playground for some time?

So, what you have to do is; you just clear one cupboard or kitchen drawer and put a collection of unbreakable jars, pans or pots in it. Tell your kid the shape, colour and use of each utensil and see if he enjoys listening to you. Put the pan upside down and ask him to put it in the right way up. Frankly speaking, my 1-year-old is always busy with the kitchen utensils be it rolling pin, lighter or Pans.

The benefit of the activity:

Allowing your kid to explore the daily used items helps him understanding the environment he stays in. It will help him learn how to follow the directions of his parents or anyone who is in the family. And this activity encourages family bonding too. Gradually, he will learn to put the things back in the drawer which will help him in organizing the things.

Hide and Seek

Again, this activity is fun and my Hitarth really enjoys it a lot. We both (Me & My Husband) play hide and seek with him. I also found this activity a real fun because I get to see & hear the laugh of our baby as soon as he finds us. So, try playing hide and seek with your kid and share your experience with me. I would love to hear that.

The benefit of the activity:

With this activity, your child learns a lot of things. He will start understanding that the thing or a person which he can’t see around, still exists. Obviously, it strengthens your bond with them too. They will have the curiosity to re-find something they have just lost. Kids will soon have a goal because they will find the best place to hide so you cant find them easily. There are much more benefits to this activity.

Engage your toddler with Books

I am sure, you will think about how can a 1-year-old can read or study books. But mind it! They can if you have a picture book available; be it of animals, birds, or anything with interesting images that attract kids. In fact, I have read somewhere that 7-month-old baby can identify the words and understand more than a 7-year-old. I don’t know whether it is true or not. But definitely, reading with them is a good preference always.

They might not understand what is written in the book but they will sure look at the pictures and enjoy and try to imagine something. At least you will have fun together.

The benefit of the activity:

If your child is engaging and enjoying looking at the book, he is learning. Because when the kids have positive interaction with books, they will develop a good feeling about reading which can help them when they grow as they continue seeking out for books to read. So, give it a try once.

Rhymes; All time favourite

My hitarth is very fond of rhymes. I started playing rhymes (Audio) when he was only 2 months old. Slowly, I switched to TV to show him rhymes. Though, there should not be any screen time for less than a year old kid. So, I would suggest if you can play audio rhymes so your kid can listen to them.

Once your kid is familiar with some rhymes, you start singing them yourself to them because children love their Mumma’s voice and they will enjoy it more. And you see, soon they will be dancing to your rhymes.

The benefit of the activity:

You know, singing or teaching your toddler a nursery rhyme helps in their language development because these rhymes are their first experience with words.

And when they listen to the rhymes, they will learn new words and if they are repetitively listening to the same rhyme, soon they will start saying those words and practice their pronunciation because children love music and songs.

Takeaway

So, these were some of the learning activities that you should do with your toddler when you cannot step outside for outdoor plays.

These activities are daily routine at my home and this way, we can engage more with our toddler and our bond is getting stronger with each passing day.

Though there are so many other activities which I have not mentioned here but they are a regular part of our lives. And if you want me to write on them too, please let me know in. The comments section. If anyone of you has an idea of any other activity which I should start doing, please share with me. So, bbyee. Stay home, stay safe. And Enjoy the company of your little one!
